Our Purpose
The Who
As a dedicated non-profit organization, we focus on delivering essential dental services directly to the student population of RPS 205. Recognizing the unique needs of these young individuals, we founded 205 DDS (Direct Dental Services) to ensure that all students have access to quality oral care and education. Our goal is to promote healthy smiles and improve overall well-being within the community.
The What
Tooth decay is one of the most common chronic diseases in children and is entirely preventable. It is the second leading cause of school absenteeism, following asthma. One in seven children aged 6 to 12 misses school due to dental pain or infection. Children from low-income families are disproportionately affected, missing more school due to untreated dental issues, which can negatively impact their academic performance.
The Where
Currently, students receive preventive dental services (exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants) from the School-Based Program at their respective schools on an annual basis. The new program with 205 DDS will establish a dental home for all students at the College and Career Education Center. Transportation to and from their own schools will be provided by RPS 205. This will be a year-round initiative.
The Why
To promote student health, enhance learning potential, and reduce absenteeism. Many children unnecessarily endure poor oral health.
The When
The target date is September 2025 to open the doors to the official building of 205 DDS and become the home base of general dentistry for the students of RPS 205.
