CHAIRMAN

Dr. Cyrus Oates is dedicated to providing valuable dental services and is passionate about the positive changes he sees in his patients' attitudes toward dentistry. Inspired by family members who contributed to their communities, he chose healthcare to meet a vital need.

His work allows him to build strong relationships with patients, and he thrives on the evolving nature of dentistry. For Dr. Oates, each visit is a chance to reconnect and learn about their lives. He takes pride in delivering painless care to those with dental anxiety, especially when he sees them shift from fear to eagerness for their appointments. Caring for multiple generations in families is a humbling honor for him.

VICE CHAIR

Dr. Tuneberg, a past president of the Illinois State Dental Society and former Trustee of the American Dental Association Board, recently completed his role as chair of the Commission on Dental Accreditation, which accredits dental education programs in the U.S. He currently serves on the Standing Committee on International Accreditation and as a dental board examiner for the Central Regional Dental Testing Service. For over 30 years, he has been on the Board of Directors for Dent-IL PAC and co-chairs the Local Arrangements for the Illinois Mission of Mercy. He actively supports veterans' oral care and donated dental services. Dr. Tuneberg has received the ADA Presidential Citation and the Illinois State Dental Society Distinguished Member Award. He has been a featured speaker at the ADA's Washington Leadership Conference and the ADA Annual Session.

SECRETARY

Becky Kendall recently retired from the Rockford Regional Health Council after an impressive 17-year tenure, during which she held various pivotal roles. Her work was instrumental in advancing the Council’s mission of uniting community leaders around a shared vision for meaningful change. 

A steadfast advocate for professional and civic engagement, Becky brings a rare combination of optimism and pragmatic expertise to every initiative. Her deep commitment to inclusivity and collaboration ensures that every voice in the community is heard and valued. Known for her remarkable ability to connect people and ideas, she consistently fosters partnerships that drive progress and innovation. As she often says, “This is about all of us,” a philosophy that underscores her tireless dedication to creating a brighter future for everyone.

BOARD MEMBER

Dr. Grinter is the past Dental Director at Milestone Dental Clinic in Rockford, IL. Milestone Dental Clinic is one of the country's leading non-profit dental clinics that exclusively treats patients with developmental disabilities. Dr. Grinter obtained staff privileges at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford where he was able to treat the needs of patients who require dental work while under general anesthesia. He also spent time treating patients on the Ronald McDonald Caremobile while in Rockford, reaching out to some of the more rural areas in Northwest Illinois. Dr. Grinter is a leader in public health dentistry and continually works to bring dental care to those who need it the most.

Roni Sturm, RN, BSN, MSN, PEL-CSN has been an integral part of the Rockford Public Schools team since 2017, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to her role as Director of Health Services. With a strong background in Cardiac and Critical Care, Roni is committed to promoting the health and well-being of students and staff alike.

Having lived in Rockford for 45 years, Roni is not only a professional but also a proud member of the community she serves. Her extensive expertise and passion for healthcare make her a valuable asset to the school district and the families it supports.

BOARD MEMBER

Dr. John Kim, DDS has been a dedicated general dentist since 1992 and has been serving the Rockford area since 2000. Known for his commitment to community service, Dr. Kim has played an active role in various volunteer initiatives within the field of dentistry. He has chaired the "Give Kids a Smile" events in Winnebago County, delivering valuable dental education to over 1,000 elementary school students each year during National Children's Dental Health Month in February.

Recently, Dr. Kim was part of the committee that successfully brought the Mission of Mercy event to Rockford, collaborating with fellow local dentists and under the leadership of Chairman Perry. His previous involvement in Mission of Mercy events in both Illinois and Wisconsin reflects his belief in the importance of using his dental skills to give back to the community he serves.
